Amy's Artwork
Amy Matsumoto was born on August 24th in Cincinnati, Ohio, spending her early years in rural Ohio on a farm. The Matsumoto family moved to Sanibel Island in the mid-seventies and quickly became involved in the community. Amy was no exception, attending school on Sanibel and becoming a part of the close-knit Island community. Though she no longer lives on the Island, she remains connected to Sanibel to this day.
Being the daughter of artists Ikki and Polly matsumoto, Amy grew up in the midst of art and creativity. An artist in her own right, her most recent efforts resulted in the publication of "Captivated", a retrospective of her father's artwork and tribute to Ikki and Polly. Amy continues to sell prints of Ikki's collection and also has a very limited limited number of originals available at IkkiMatsumoto.com. Amy never had any formal training but always loved making things for friends. "It was too scary to think about disappointing my father, so I stopped drawing until six months after my father's death when I felt something inside me that needed to com out."
Living in the Fort Lauderdale area, Amy has three children, Christopher, Snow, and Rigel, and is happily married to her best friend from high school, Steve Urich. She continues to curate Ikki and Polly's artwork while continuing to explore her artistic voices. She started off painting, but moved through multiple medias, including building crazy top hats and fantasy armor and is now foraging in the woods for vines, like her mother, and making baskets, but her mother's loom literally looms in the corner of her living room calling out to give it a try.
"You're next," Amy promises whenever it catches her eye.
